Gluten Free Chickpea Vegetarian Roti Roll  Gluten Free Vegetable Pakoras

Dear Daylight Savings,

You’ve cheated me. I just got used to waking up to wonderful sunshine these past few weeks, but with one stolen hour last weekend, you screwed it all up.  The sun no longer greets me as I awake, I can’t keep my eyes open past 11PM, I wake up in the middle of my sleep thinking, is it 7AM or 3AM? You’ve made me so tired that I have failed to make my lunches for the week. There’s no other way to put it – YOU SUCK.

Yours in drowsiness,

Rohini…zzz

OK so all drama aside… has Daylight Savings messed with my sleep? Yes, probably a little. But can I blame a measly hour time change on my sluggishness and failure to make lunch all week? Nope! That’s just pure laziness.

Lucky for me, my lunch woes were solved when Zara’s Gourmet Kitchen came to my rescue…Zara’s is a family run catering business that provides delicious & nutritious vegan Indian food to health food stores all over Toronto. All the meals are cooked with natural ingredients and are cholesterol free, trans fat free, preservative free and nut free. Bonus for all the gluten-free Veg Heads out there, Zara’s also offers plenty of GF wraps, curries, rotis and more.

Zara’s presents customers with a wonderful selection of appetizers including, Baked SamosasPakoras and Traditional Samosas as well as a variety of Vegan Wraps, Roti Rolls, Curries and Veggie Burgers. The owners of Zara’s are very dear family friends of mine and brought me and my family some roti rolls to try out.

Whole Wheat Vegetarian Eggplant Wrap Whole Wheat Lentil and Spinach Vegetarian Roti Mixed Vegetable Roti Roll - Vegetarian Vegetarian Chickpea Roti

Over the past few days during lunch I have tasted all of the Whole Wheat Roti Rolls pictured above, which includes: the Eggplant & Sundried Tomato Roll, the Spinach & Lentil Roll, the Mixed Vegetable Roll, and the Spiced Chickpea Roll.

For me, each Roti Roll was a perfect sized meal for lunch when accompanied by a side salad (the only thing I could manage to “cook” this week). The Rotis are well seasoned without being spicy and the best part is the roll stays in tact as you eat it so there’s no mess and no cutlery needed.

So the next time you are looking for an easy lunch or to cater a luncheon or dinner give Zara’s a try – you can find most of their rolls and appetizers at local health food stores (click here for a full list) or you can place an order for take-out/delivery online.
