Piano Piano is an Italian restaurant by Chef Victor Barry (of Spelndido), which is appropriately located on 88 Harbord Street, the same number of keys on a piano. Barry humorously explains on his menu that the food is New Jersey style Italian food, which is a nice change from the Italian we are used to in Toronto.
Italian food is one of my favourites so I was excited to try a new spot that had plenty of vegetarian options to choose from. The vegetarian fare includes:
Snacks (Spuntino): Ricotta on Toast
Appetizers (Antipasti): Chopped Salad, Burrata
Sides (Contorni): Russet Potato Fries, Shishito
Pizza: The Bitter (Mozzarella, Fior di Latte, Parmigiano, Dandelion, Kale, Garlic, Chilli, Lemon)
Pasta (Macaroni)which you can get : Egg Yolk Raviolo (Spinach, Ricotta, Parmigiano, Brown Butter), Caccio e Pepe Agnolotti (Ricotta, Black Pepper, Parmigiano), Canestri alla Vodka (Tomato, Chilli, Mascarpone)
Dessert (Dolce): Nutella Tiramisu, Triple Coco Barry Chocolate Cake, Ginger Carrot Cake, Rhubarb Cheese Cake
It took me a while to decide on my dinner but the Burrata (served on garlic bread with dates, espresso, sweet garlic oil and topped with rosemary and hazelnuts) was an easy choice for the antipasti. I finally decided I wanted a pasta over the pizza and went for a small portion of the Canestri alla Vodka with Tomato, Chilli and Mascarpone, pictured above (not pictured but worth noting is my big glass of chianti wine, YuMmmMmM). I ended my meal with one of the most decadent and delicious Tiramisus I have ever had and left the restaurant on a high note!
I have already recommended Piano Piano to a few friends since the restaurant appeals to more than just the vegetarian. It’s a great place to take a veg head, a carnivorous date, and even your best gluten-free pal as all the pastas have a GF alternative and I was told the GF pizzas will be coming to the menu very soon.
Until next time, friends!
